Assemble a First Aid Kit for your Disaster Kit, and a smaller one for each vehicle. The following list is a suggested guide only, you should use what best suits your needs.
Note! Make & maintain a complete list of all items and quantities in your kit so that over time, you will know what you have on hand.
First Aid Kit Contents
- First aid manual
- Sterile adhesive bandages in assorted sizes
- Cleansing agent/soap, and cloth or towel
- Sunscreen
- Lip protection
- Cotton balls/pads
- 2″ & 3″ sterile roller bandages – (3) rolls each
- 2″ & 4″ sterile gauze pads – (4-6) each
- Non-stick sterile bandages (different sizes)
- Eye dressing or pad
- Paper tape
- Disinfectant (for cleaning wounds)
- Triangular bandages – (3)
- Splint (Sam)
- Vet Wraps (2″ & 4″) (can be obtained from a farm store such as Wilco, or purchased on-line)
- Safety pins, clips and other fasteners
- Scissors & tweezers
- Needle
- Moistened towelettes
- Waterless hand cleaner
- Antiseptic ointment *
- Antihistamines *
- Digital thermometer
- Tongue depressor blades – (2)
- Petroleum jelly or other antiseptic/lubricant
- Current prescription medicines *
- Non-prescription drugs – aspirin, non-aspirin pain reliever, anti-diarrhea medication, antacids, vitamins, other normal supplements *
- Zip lock bags (gallon size)
* Keep all medications in original containers. Check expiration dates and replace.
The following items are specific for trauma & bleeding, and are not necessarily meant for layperson use, however volunteer medical staff may find them helpful if you have them as part of your kit.
