Home Emergency Supply Kit

disaster_supply_kitThe following are suggested supplies for when your home is livable but does not have utilities.  Build your supplies for a minimum of 2 weeks or longer.

Note!  Make & maintain a complete list of all items and quantities in your kit so that over time, you will know what you have on hand.

Kitchen
  • Manual can opener
  • Water (1 gallon per person per day)  (6) 20 oz. bottled water = 1 gallon.
  • Camping stove to cook dehydrated food.  1 qt. propane style suggested.  Keep additional propane bottles on hand.
  • Food that does not require refrigeration.  Combination of canned, dehydrated, and MRE’s suggested.
  • Baby formula
  • Instant coffee
  • Personal water filter
  • Liquid bleach & eyedropper (for measuring)
  • Weather/wind proof matches and or butane lighters
  • Garbage Bags
Bedroom
  • Clothing/footwear
  • Sleeping bags (1 per person)
  • By the Bed mini-kit (sturdy shoes, flashlight & extra pair of glasses (if you wear them), in a bag attached to the head or footboard of your bed
Bathroom
  • First aid kit (see suggested list on this website)
  • Toothpaste & toothbrushes
  • Bar soap & liquid detergent
  • Shampoo
  • Bottle of multi vitamins
  • Anti bacterial moist towelettes
  • Toilet paper
  • 5-gallon bucket, garbage bags & plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Medications (2-week minimum supply)

  • Copy of home emergency plan
  • Map of area (neighborhood & regional)
  • Important contact, emergency phone contact lists 7 other important documents
  • Pictures of family members

  • Spare eye wear & care products
  • Battery powered or hand crank radio & spare batteries

  • Spare fuel for propane camp stove and heater (consider bulk tanks)
  • Generator with fuel and appropriate power cords

  • Glow sticks (green 12 hour)

  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities

  • Plastic sheeting (100’x10′ 6 mil black.  Can be used as temporary shelter or to patch roofs, doors, etc.)

Store your supplies together in a convent place known to all family members.  Refresh annually.
