Cascadia Explained

THE REALLY BIG ONE

“An earthquake will destroy a sizable portion of the coastal Northwest.  The question is when.”

In July 2015, Kathryn Schulz, a writer for The New Yorker, wrote an article about the Cascadia subduction zone, titled THE REALLY BIG ONE.

This article explains in detail, much of what scientists have learned about the fault line known as the Cascadia subduction zone which runs for 700 miles off the Pacific Northwest coast, from around Cape Mendocino, California, north to Vancouver Island.

Not only does the article explain how and where the fault line exists, but goes on to explain what may happen during and after a major earthquake.

Subsequent to her article shown above, she wrote a follow up piece titled HOW TO STAY SAFE WHEN THE BIG ONE COMES This article goes into a lot more detail regarding what could be expected during and after a large magnitude earthquake, and how to prepare for the aftermath.
